Geek Point Of View:

For business travelers who travel frequently, want luxury perks and don’t mind paying for pleasure will find the Business Platinum Card from American Express as a solid option.

To start – many people won’t be able to get past the card’s $595 annual fee, but there are a lot of rewards and yearly credits to help offset the cost. If you spend at least $15,000 in the first three months of getting this card you will receive up to $600. Cardholders are also eligible to receive up to $400 in credits for airline fees and Dell purchases each year.

This card can be worth it for high-spending business travelers who are constantly on the go. Check out some of the important highlights on this card below.

  • One of the most expensive cards: The American Express Business Platinum Card charges a hefty annual fee of $595. With a cost this high you have to make sure you’ll use this card often and take advantage of all it has to offer.
  • Big travel rewards: This card offers 5 points for $1 spent on airfare and prepaid hotel reservations booked on AmexTravel.com. Business Platinum points that are redeemed for a flight with your chosen airline are worth 35% more.

  • Travel perks: You’ll be eligible for up to $200 per year in statement credits for incidental fees charged by your chosen airline. Aside from that, the Amex Business Platinum card will cover the cost of applying for TSA Precheck or Global Entry.

  • No financing purchases: This is a charge card, which means you’ll have to pay your bill in full every month to continue making purchases. This is common for business credit cards.

Geek Point Of View:

The Blue Business Plus Credit Card by American Express is a solid business credit card that offers business owners some major perks. First off, the card offers 0% APR on purchases for the first 12 months of account opening with no annual fee. Aside from those two perks it also will provide cardholders with 0% for 12 months on balance transfers. Keep in mind the balance transfer comes with a fee of 3% (min $5).

As for the rewards, cardholders will receive 2 points per $1 spent on their first $50,000 in purchases each year. After you get to $50,000 in purchases you’ll get 1 point per $1 spent.

View some highlights on the Amex Blue Business Plus below.

  • Average rewards: While the first $50,000 spent annually will yield 2 points per $1, any other purchases provide just 1 point per $1 spent, which isn’t anything special. Make sure you calculate how much you’ll be using this card to get the most amount of points from it.
  • 0% on new purchases: For the first 12 months you’ll have 0% APR on new purchases. After the 12 months you’ll pay an APR anywhere between 13.24% to 19.24% (V). It’s a good intro rate but make sure you’ll be able to pay off your balance in that timeframe or you’ll rack up interest.
  • 0% on balance transfers: While this is a great perk it does come at a cost. Balance transfers with the Amex Blue Business Plus will charge a fee of 3% (min $5).
  • No annual fee: Save some cash and don’t worry about an annual fee with the Amex Blue Business Plus card.
  • There’s a foreign transaction fee: This card comes with a hefty 2.7% foreign transaction fee. If you’re going to be traveling overseas make sure to bring another card or plan accordingly.

Bottom line: Overall this card will provide you with no annual fee, a nice flat rate reward and some good intro APR’s. This is a great card for simplicity and some introductory perks but big spenders could find more value from their business credit card elsewhere.
